Why season drives an Oopbuy haul
Clothing listings follow the Chinese retail calendar closely, and that calendar is not yours. Autumn stock appears in late summer; winter coats are pushed hard before the coldest weeks and discounted after. If you plan an Oopbuy haul without thinking about the season, you either pay full price for something you cannot wear yet, or you ship a coat in April and store it for six months.
Shipping takes time, too. An item ordered at the end of a season may arrive after the weather has turned. Planning one season ahead is the single most useful habit in this guide.
Spring: light layers and transition pieces
Spring is the season of things you wear for six weeks. Light jackets, overshirts, thin knitwear, plain T-shirts, light trousers and a first pair of trainers for the year.
- Good anchors: a light bomber or overshirt, a pair of low sneakers.
- Good fillers: T-shirts, socks, a light cap.
- Avoid: heavy coats bought at full price on the assumption you will need them — buy those in the sales instead.
Spring parcels tend to be light, which makes them a good time to experiment with a new seller or a category you have not tried.
Summer: the cheapest parcels to ship
Summer items are light and pack small, so a summer haul usually gives the best shipping value of the year. Shorts, T-shirts, sandals, caps, sunglasses, light shirts.
| Summer item | Rough weight | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| T-shirt | 0.2–0.3 kg | Buy in multiples; they ship cheaply |
| Shorts | 0.3–0.4 kg | Check the inseam measurement |
| Sandals or slides | 0.4–0.7 kg | Lighter than sneakers |
| Cap | 0.1–0.2 kg | Pack flat or leave the brim free |
| Sunglasses | 0.1–0.3 kg | Ask for the case to be included |
Because the parcel is light, summer is a sensible time for a first haul: lower shipping cost and forgiving sizes.
Autumn: the best all-round haul
Autumn is when the year's most useful parcels happen. The weather supports layers, so a hoodie, a jacket and a pair of boots all get worn immediately. Stock is fresh, sizes are available and the categories are deep.
A typical autumn shape: one outer layer, one hoodie or knit, one pair of trousers and a light filler. That is about 3 kg and covers most of a wardrobe's needs for three months.
Winter: heavy, bulky and expensive to ship
Winter is where shipping costs bite. Padded jackets are light for their size but enormous in volume, and boots are dense. Volumetric weight — the size of the box rather than the weight on the scale — can make a winter parcel cost more than the coat inside it.
- Vacuum pack down jackets and knitwear. It is the single biggest saving.
- Ship one coat per parcel. Two puffers in one box rarely makes sense.
- Order early. Winter stock sells out in popular sizes before the cold arrives.
- Check restrictions. Some heavily padded items are limited on certain lines.
The out-of-season question
Buying a winter coat in spring can be genuinely cheaper, because sellers clear stock. It can also be a waste: the listing may be gone by the time you need it, the size may be the only one left, and you pay storage or shipping now for something you wear in eight months.
A reasonable rule: buy out of season only for items you are confident about — a brand or seller you have used, a size you know, a style that does not date. Do not gamble on an unknown seller in the wrong season, because you will not find out whether it was a mistake until it is too late to return.
Seasonal planning calendar
| When you order | What you are really buying |
|---|---|
| Late winter | Spring layers, light trainers, T-shirts |
| Spring | Summer shorts and sandals, plus discounted winter stock |
| Summer | Autumn jackets and hoodies before the rush |
| Autumn | Winter coats and boots, ordered early |
One season ahead is the sweet spot. Two seasons ahead is a storage problem.
What does not change with the season
The checks are the same all year: open the product page, read the size chart in centimetres, check the quality-control photos and plan the weight. Seasonal planning changes what you buy, not how carefully you buy it. If you are building your first parcel, read how to plan an Oopbuy haul first, and keep the weight guide open while you choose a winter coat.
